
Assessing Forest Dependency in Eastern Europe
Over the last four months, consultants have braved watchdogs and other daunting challenges to complete surveys of over 1250 households in forest communities in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia, and Ukraine. The goal of the study is not only to quantify how people rely on forests, but also to help determine whether that reliance is sustainable into the future and why.

FLEG II Progress Celebrated and Year 2 Activities Confirmed in NPAC Meetings Across All Member Countries
Common themes of improved Country Workplans (CWPs), learning from past experiences and increasing communication have emerged from meetings of the National Program Advisory Committees (NPAC) of the participant countries of the FLEG II Program (European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument East Countries Forest Law Enforcement and Governance II Program). The ongoing implementation of the Project’s activities in each member country have been discussed with agreements for activities to be launched in the second year (June 2014-July 2015) of the Program’s implementation.

December 17, 2013, Rovaniemi (Finland) – On 12th December, as part of the European Forest Week, the ENPI (European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument) East Countries FLEG (Forest Law Enforcement and Governance) II hosted an open panel discussion on the process of tackling forest governance challenges and supporting sustainable forest management practices through national and regional experiences. The event was co-chaired with the Russian Federal Forest Agency (FFA).

On 12 December, 2013, during the European Forest Week in Rovaniemi (Finland), the ENPI FLEG Team (EC, WB, WWF, IUCN) will host a special parallel event to highlight the process of tackling forest governance challenges and supporting sustainable forest management practices through national and regional experiences.

Second Phase of the Forest Law Enforcement and Governance Program Launched by Forest Practitioners
