FLEG II Program in Azerbaijan took part in the 1st Azerbaijan Environmental Forum
Baku, March 18, 2014 - The 1st Azerbaijan Environmental Forum took place in Baku. The event was organized by IDEA (International Dialogue for Environmental Action) Public Union, led by Vice President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Mrs. Leyla Aliyeva. The main aim of the Forum was to foster open discussions on the status of the environment in Azerbaijan.

Newly-developed forest education tutorial discussed during “Green World” round table
Baku, March 12, 2014 – the Minister of Culture and Tourism (MCT) of Azerbaijan held a round table, “Green World”, in the V. Korolyenko City Central Library, to discuss youth participation in forestry activities. Topics covered included the protection of the forests and sustainable forest management in Azerbaijan.

December 17, 2013, Rovaniemi (Finland) – On 12th December, as part of the European Forest Week, the ENPI (European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument) East Countries FLEG (Forest Law Enforcement and Governance) II hosted an open panel discussion on the process of tackling forest governance challenges and supporting sustainable forest management practices through national and regional experiences. The event was co-chaired with the Russian Federal Forest Agency (FFA).

Illegal logging in Russia: knowledge of its scale is of vital importance for effective decision-making
How much timber is logged illegally in Russia? No one knows the exact volumes. The ENPI East Countries FLEG II team has brought leading experts together to start developing a methodology to assess the volume of illegal logging in Russia at the federal and regional levels.

Azerbaijani Minister of Ecology and natural resources greets launch of the second phase of ENPI FLEG II
Baku (Azerbaijan), November 23, 2013 - The 4th International CTE (Caspian Technologies for Environment) 2013 Environmental Protection Exhibition took place from the 20th to 22nd November at the Baku Expo Centre. The Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources for Azerbaijan, Huseyn Baghirov, congratulated the ENPI East FLEG II Program team on the launching of the second phase of the Program and wished them success.

On 12 December, 2013, during the European Forest Week in Rovaniemi (Finland), the ENPI FLEG Team (EC, WB, WWF, IUCN) will host a special parallel event to highlight the process of tackling forest governance challenges and supporting sustainable forest management practices through national and regional experiences.

National Advisory Committee of Azerbaijan for the ENPI FLEG II Program met to discuss priority activities for the current year
Baku (Azerbaijan), November 3, 2013 – The first meeting of the Azerbaijan National Program Advisory Committee (NPAC) of the EU financed program ENPI/East-2 FLEG II (“European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument East Countries Forest Law Enforcement and Governance II Program”) took place in Baku, in the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) office.

Stakeholder cooperation key to help forest sector development in Ukraine
On November 12, 2013 the first meeting of the National Advisory Committee Program (NPAC) took place in Kyiv. The NPAC functions in the framework of the second phase of the EU financed programme ENPI/East-2 FLEG II to develop a strategic vision on the forest sector of Ukraine and work on proposals for forest law enforcement.
