ENPI-FLEG Program in Ukraine issued a report on cooperation with the public
For the purpose of improving mutual understanding with the public sector and strengthening transparency of its work the Ukrainian team of the ENPI-FLEG Program has prepared and issued a report which focuses on a considerable attention paid to cooperation with the Ukrainian public sector in the course of the Program implementation.
From the very outset of the Program, cooperation with the public sector was determined as one of its key priorities. So, ten NGO representatives were invited to participate in the first meeting of the Program National Consultative Committee in February 2009. Two of them later became members of this Committee. Ever since participation of public sector representatives in the ENPI-FLEG events became a good tradition.
In particular, NGOs and journalists took part in many working meetings and seminars under the ENPI-FLEG Program. According to the results of these events a mailing list was compiled and its addressees continuously receive announcements and other informative materials about the Program.
At one of the round tables organized within the framework of the Program some NGOs participants expressed their proposal to add biodiversity preservation as a component of the ENPI-FLEG activities. In response to that, the Program management called on participants to detail their proposals and forward them to the Program team for review. Such suggestions were formulated by the head of the «Ecological Health Center» (Crimea) NGO, and are now being examined by the Program specialists.
Another aspect of involving public into the Program activities is active cooperation with the Ukrainian sociologists who survey public opinion on various forestry related issues.
