FLEG II (ENPI East) Presented Alongside Recommendations for International Workshop on Promoting Legal and Sustainable China-Russia Timber Trade
Suifenhe (People’s Republic of China), February 26, 2014: an international workshop on promoting legal and sustainable timber trade between China and Russia has been held to discuss the implementation and strengthening of forestry legislation. The EU funded FLEG II (ENPI East) Program was presented during the event, alongside focal points of combating illegal logging and associated trades; improving cooperation between the countries; and the organisation of special forestry training for Chinese companies.

Round Table in Arkhangelsk Will Discuss the Enforcement Outcomes of the EU Timber Regulation
As part of Arkhangelsk Forest Forum, Arkhangelsk hosts on 2 April 2014 a round table: “Forest Management in the Context of the EU Timber Regulation”. A joint initiative of WWF Russia, TRAFFIC and Global Forest and Trade Network (GFTN), the round table is organized within the FLEG II (ENPI East) program financed by the EU.

Armenian National Program Advisory Committee’s Second Meeting Discusses Forest Law Enforcement and Governance
Today, the second meeting of the European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI) Forest Law Enforcement and Governance (FLEG II) National Program Advisory Committee (NPAC) was held at the World Bank Yerevan Office. At the meeting the implementing organizations (IOs) presented their planned activities for the first year of Program implementation and sought the advice of NPAC members to facilitate collaboration and synergy with other on-going Projects and Programs in the field.

December 17, 2013, Rovaniemi (Finland) – On 12th December, as part of the European Forest Week, the ENPI (European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument) East Countries FLEG (Forest Law Enforcement and Governance) II hosted an open panel discussion on the process of tackling forest governance challenges and supporting sustainable forest management practices through national and regional experiences. The event was co-chaired with the Russian Federal Forest Agency (FFA).

Illegal logging in Russia: knowledge of its scale is of vital importance for effective decision-making
How much timber is logged illegally in Russia? No one knows the exact volumes. The ENPI East Countries FLEG II team has brought leading experts together to start developing a methodology to assess the volume of illegal logging in Russia at the federal and regional levels.

The 1st Steering Committee for the ENPI East Countries FLEG II was held in Belarus, October 1-3, 2013. Representatives from all the participating countries presented the successes of the first phase of their forestry reform programs, and discussed plans for the most effective progress in the second phase.

Azerbaijani Minister of Ecology and natural resources greets launch of the second phase of ENPI FLEG II
Baku (Azerbaijan), November 23, 2013 - The 4th International CTE (Caspian Technologies for Environment) 2013 Environmental Protection Exhibition took place from the 20th to 22nd November at the Baku Expo Centre. The Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources for Azerbaijan, Huseyn Baghirov, congratulated the ENPI East FLEG II Program team on the launching of the second phase of the Program and wished them success.

Voronezh region: Pilot region in Russian Federation to implement ENPI East Countries FLEG II Program
On November 27, 2013, The Voronezh government website announced that a meeting was held between the Vice-Governor of the Voronezh region, the Head of the Department of Property and Land Relations Maxim Uvaidov, and other high ranking forestry officials in the region and representatives and experts from the EU funded FLEG II Program.
