FLEG II Azerbaijan in CTE 2015: wider acknowledgement of achievements

November 21, Baku – FLEG II Azerbaijan took part in 6th Azerbaijan International Environmental Exhibition – Caspian: Technologies for Environment (CTE).

The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan ensured the Program’s participation, including the allocation of place and financial assistance.

CTE is one of the most important annual events covering latest developments in the area of the efficient use of natural resources, systems for the collection and disposal of solid waste, modern samples of alternative energy equipment, as well as attracting  attention to environmental issues and their solutions. Coordinated work of the FLEG II Program in-country and regional communications teams produced substantial promo materials featuring current activities and providing general information about the FLEG II in Azerbaijan. Two VIP guests – Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Huseyn Baghirov and Minister of Environment and Water Resources of Bulgaria Ivelina Vasileva demonstrated a particular interest, appraising Program’s efforts in strengthening of environmental education and public awareness. 

“More than 400 visitors stopped by our stand during the first day”, said Mr. Nariman Aghayev, member of NPAC and chair of NGO “Center of Sustainable Development Research”. Together with Program’s consultants Leyla Mekhtiyeva and Zitta Hasanova they ensured a highly informative time for the participants, highlighting FLEG II priority areas and achievements. “We talked to many governmental officials and academics who inquired information about our work in developing of forest education”, said Mrs. Mekhtiyeva. “Forestry experts were particularly interested in our recent study on forest functionality and possibilities of recreational tourism in the forest territories”.

“FLEG II efforts in promoting of sustainable forest management and strengthening of forest education are unique”, said an employee of the Ministry of Education who visited FLEG II at the Exhibition. “We see an ever-growing interest among the youth towards the environment and its problems”.

Two-day event was full of interesting meetings and informative exchange of experience. FLEG II signature publications were in high demand and were literally swept out on the first day.

The CTE is an annual international exhibition, which takes place in Baku, Azerbaijan. It hosts more than 35 companies from 10 countries including Azerbaijan, Germany, Czech Republic, Russia, Turkey, and Switzerland. The majority of the guests represent the local governmental bodies, such as Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the Ministry of Education.
