On the 3rd of April 2014, a round table on "Improving governance and law enforcement in the implementation of major forest operations and forest resources in FLEG II" will be held as a part of the Arkhangelsk International Forestry Forum.
Reports on law enforcement and governance in the forest sector of the Russian Federation and its regions will be made during the round table. The participants will discuss issues of forest policy and discuss ways to improve governance and law enforcement in the main forestry operations, legal regulatory for providing conservation and the use of forests. The event will present the international experience of providing multipurpose and sustainable forest management (participation is expected from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine). A separate section is devoted to the issue of specialist training for the current economic environment.
The regional program ‘FLEG II (ENPI East) (European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument East Countries Forest Law Enforcement and Governance II)'aims to create better mechanisms for governance in the forestry sector. The program's main objective is to provide support for governance in the forest sector of the seven participating countries by improving the implementation of relevant international processes, enhancing their forest policy, legislation and institutional arrangements, and developing, testing and evaluating sustainable forest management models at the local level on a pilot basis for future replication.
Planned FLEG II activities are based on the results of the first phase of the FLEG program (2008 - 2012), developing them and taking into account the current conditions in the forestry sector.
The round table will be attended by representatives of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation (the State Duma), the heads and experts of the Federal Forestry Agency, authorities in the field of forest relations of the Russian Federation, World Bank experts, representatives of public, scientific and educational organizations and businesses, the heads of forest management governance bodies and experts from participating countries in the FLEG II (ENPI East) Program.

Arkhangelsk Forestry Forum will be held from 2 to 4 April 2014. The organizers of the event are the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry of the Arkhangelsk region and Northern (Arctic) Federal University. The main topics of the forum are normative legal regulation in the sphere of forest relations and educational and research activities in the interests of the forestry sector.
