On September 22, Khabarovsk hosted the meeting of the workgroup “For fair and efficient economy” organized by the local branch of the public movement “People’s Front for Russia” and the local branch of the Russian organization of small and medium business “Support of Russia”.
Participants discussed how to increase the investment appeal of the forest complex of the Khabarovsk Krai for small and medium businesses. They also talked about the efficiency of combatting wildfires.
A FLEG II consultant attended the meeting. At the request of the organizers, he presented the participants with the information about the results of the Program. In particular, he spoke about the analysis and systematization of legal and regulatory aspects of forest management, about the use of timber forest resources and about identifying "bottlenecks" in the Russian forest legislation. The representative of FLEG II also introduced a new approach to improving the planning and management efficiency of activities aimed at combatting wildfires. It is based on forest fire zoning and determining annual burning norms. In addition, he listed FLEG II proposals and recommendations for combatting illegal forest management, reforestation, and development of human resources in the forest sector.
Almost all proposals were reflected in the resolution of the meeting. It contains a list of activities proposed for implementation in the framework of a working group under the Governor of the Khabarovsk Krai aimed at improving the investment climate and attracting investment in the forest complex. All participants supported the creation of this collegial body, and approved the list of priority activities for it to engage in.
