As part of Arkhangelsk Forest Forum, Arkhangelsk hosts on 2 April 2014 a round table: “Forest Management in the Context of the EU Timber Regulation”. A joint initiative of WWF Russia, TRAFFIC and Global Forest and Trade Network (GFTN), the round table is organized within the FLEG II (ENPI East) program financed by the EU.
On 3 March 2013, the EU officially banned all sales of illegal timber: Regulation (EU) No. 995/2010 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 October, 2010 laying down the obligations of operators who place timber and timber products on the market came into effect across the EU.
The round table seeks to update forest management authorities, logging businesses and NGOs on the outcomes of the first-year enforcement of EU Timber Regulation 995/2010; to analyze the initial enforcement cases and the applicable Russian laws; to discuss the ways in which the EU-bound timber supply chains can be protected from illegal products and illegal logging can be combated in Russia
We kindly encourage federal- and region-level forest management authorities, EU stakeholders, regulations enforcement agencies, monitoring organizations, Russian and international logging businesses and NGOs to join us and participate.
