Armenia: forests, people, and FLEG II in action

  •   FLEG teaches fire safety and anti-fire activities in the forests to children of Armenia. This has been organized in the frames of school forestry with engagement of selected school children from 4 communities of Syunik region.

  •   As a direct result of FLEG roadshow recommendations to reduce the temptation to cut fuelwood illegally as shown in this image, the Armenian Government issued a decree allowing residents of forest-dependent communities access to eight cubic meters of deadwood free of charge each year to help meet their fuelwood needs.

  •   Shikahogh State Reserve is Armenia’s second largest forest reserve, covering some 10,330 ha of land, and located in southern Armenia in the Syunik Province. However, approximately 1,278 km² of its territory is covered by Lake Sevan, which is the largest body of water in Armenia and the Caucasus region. It is one of the largest freshwater high-altitude lakes in Eurasia.
